A Moment With…

Untitled design (1).jpg

A MOMENT WITH…. features a series of monologues, or miniature dramas, written by Steven and inspired by Alan Bennett’s Talking Heads. These brutally honest confessionals are filled to the brim with humor, sadness, and life. Some are inspired by historical figures, some by moments that affect us all.

The voices in this collection will provide actors with fully-realized solo pieces, perfect for auditions and showcases.

28 Marchant Avenue

28 marchant.jpg

In 28 Marchant Avenue, Steven Carl McCasland draws back the curtain on The Kennedy Family's Hyannisport compound. Examining five summers in the family's lives, the play focuses on the lobotomy of Rose Marie Kennedy. Spend each fading summer with John, Joe, Eunice, Kathleen, Bobby, Pat, Rose, Joseph and Rosemary as the family grapples with their skeletons.

"McCasland’s view of the Kennedy Household may not be totally factual, but feels absolutely emotionally spot-on. He has obviously done his research. This is the “Camelot” JFK grew up in, before his widow and her minions cynically bestowed that tag on their White House stay." -

What Was Lost

what was lost .jpeg

In What Was Lost, beloved stage actress Laurette Taylor returns to the stage after a six-year hiatus. BroadwayWorld's Kristen Morale called the play "the most riveting" she had ever seen. For the first time in over a decade, she takes to the stage sober. Chronicling her process from the first rehearsal of Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie through her legendary first performance as Amanda Wingfield, What Was Lost is a piercing look at the lies we tell ourselves in order to survive.

"In What Was Lost, McCasland effectively depicts the plunge into the unknown—with its terrors and exhilarations—that is a production of a new play. At times, he evokes Williams’ “memory play” techniques as the characters’ art and lives intertwine." -

Shades of Blue: The Decline and Fall of Lady Day

shades of blue.jpeg

In a searing new look at the final years of Billie Holiday's life, McCasland examines her sordid history of sexual, alcohol and drug abuse. With appearances by her husband, Louis McKay, her agent, Joe Glaser, her lover, Tallulah Bankhead, her mother and more, this memory play studies one of music's most troubled and astonishing talents.

"...this show is an emotional roller coaster that shows the severity of the singer's addiction and ultimate deterioration in such a raw, tangible way. McCasland is a creative genius... It is a raw, uninhibited show that provides the audience with an uncomfortable yet poignant experience - one that is truly unforgettable. " -

Neat & Tidy

Richard Cameron of The Examiner praised neat & tidy as one of the Top 10 Dramatic Plays of the Year. Jon Sobel of BlogCritics called it a "bravely imagined" work and compared Steven to Thornton Wilder. BroadwayWorld called it "wonderfully heartbreaking and intriguing".

The story of a small town experiencing the aftershocks of a murder, neat & tidy takes the audience for spins and turns as they uncover the truth behind the tragedy. To read Cameron's review, click here. To read Sobel's, click here. For BroadwayWorld's, click here.

Alice Au Pays des Merveilles

(Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland)

Untitled design (5).jpg

Steven's original adaptation of Alice in Wonderland played Off-Broadway's SoHo Playhouse for a summer run in 2011. When young, American Alice follows a mime into an elevator, she finds herself in a strange new world. Loosely inspired by Chagall's Paris Through The Window, Alice encounters a two little runts with very sticky fingers and a very naughty Queen. She runs a mad Caucus Race and meets a deck of characters that seem familiar and new at the same time.

Stretching the limit of our imaginations and creating an entirely new Wonderland, ALICE is written for a (flexible) cast of 10 actors playing over 20 roles. With a shoestring budget, an and a hoop skirt or two, this adaptation will force you to accept the kid that's still inside.
